The Adamawa State Command of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires has called for the provision of equipment to effectively complement the efforts of security agencies in tackling crimes and criminal activities in the state.
The Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires, which is an auxiliary arm of the Nigerian Legion, conducts several services and functions, including residential guards, mobile patrol, school crime protection, service support to other military and paramilitary formations, surveillance of critical infrastructure, commercial and community policing.
Speaking shortly after a sensitization rally organized by the corps in the state, the Commandant of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires, Adamawa State Command, Retired Navy Warrant Officer Linus James, said the rally was meant to sensitize residents, especially youths of Badirissa, Vunoklang, Federal Housing, and other areas of the state on the need to join the corps and cooperate with them to tackle crimes and secure the society.
The Commandant, who said that the members of the corps rely on the money they get from the organizations they render services for, called on the government and organizations to patronize their services.
Retired Navy Warrant Officer Linus revealed that the corps works in close collaboration with the police and the military for a secure and safe environment, noting that last year, the corps arrested vandals of traffic lights at the Lamido Aliyu Mustapha International Airport, Yola, in addition to tackling criminal activities in the Bachure axis.
He called on the government to allow their members to carry arms for improved services, saying, ‘One of our major constraints is that we don’t have arms to navigate some areas. We are urging the government to allow our members to carry even dane guns. They will handle them well. We will train them on arms safety and handling, just as we were trained during our time in the military”.
The Commandant also announced the dismissal of two members of the corps for total disobedience. He charged the serving members to be respectful and obedient, as according to him, the corps doesn’t tolerate disrespect and disobedience.
Mr. Linus, who doubles as the Legion Chairman, Yola North LGA, commended the sacrifices and commitment of the officers and men of the corps, urging them to sustain the spirit.
On his part, the Assistant Corps Commandant, Badirissa Outpost, Ibrahim Audu, reiterated their commitment to ensuring a crime-free society, urging members of the public to collaborate with them and swiftly report security threats and nuisances to the Corps or nearby security outfits for immediate action.
Ibrahim Audu, who said that the corps can’t address people’s concerns without them reporting the problems, charged the officers and men of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires to be disciplined and remain focused on their responsibilities.
Ibrahim charged them to sit up, follow the rules of engagements and serve the people to the best of their ability for a secure and safe environment.
The officers and men of the Nigerian Legion Corps of Commissionaires were supported during the rally by operation farauta, military, Nigerian Police and the NDLEA operatives.
