The Management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi recently hosted an end-of-year event to honor the exemplary contributions of its staff throughout 2024. This occasion reflects the hospital administration’s dedication to staff welfare and acknowledges individuals who have shown remarkable commitment to their roles.

During the event, Chief Medical Director Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin shared notable accomplishments achieved by the hospital in 2024. Highlights included the successful implementation of e-health software, marking a significant advancement in healthcare delivery; the establishment of a responsive ambulance service for emergencies; the introduction of home-based geriatric care for elderly patients; and the provision of free cesarean surgeries aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality. The hospital also made strides in infrastructure development, with ongoing expansions at the ATBU Gubi Campus, and secured a capacity-building grant from the Medical Research Council of Gambia at the London School of Hygiene for Vaccine Clinical Trials, representing a major achievement in medical research.

Professor Jibrin called upon the hospital community to reaffirm its commitment to the philosophy that “ATBUTH’s journey is forward, not backward.” He emphasized that this vision requires collective effort, support, and a united belief in progress. “Let no one say it cannot be done; rather, let us demonstrate that together, we can and will achieve our goals,” he articulated.

The Chief Medical Director also outlined several challenges confronting the hospital, including constraints in human and capital resources, energy and water shortages, and resistance to digital transformation. Nonetheless, he noted that the management is actively exploring solutions such as renewable energy sources, accelerating infrastructure projects, and expanding community outreach initiatives.

As part of the celebratory activities, 120 staff members from various levels—including management team members, department heads, managers, and union leaders—were recognized with commendation letters for their outstanding service.
