The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the Coalition of Climate Change Actors in the North East (COCCAN), has inaugurated a Climate Change Sector Working Group (CCSWG).

The group aims to coordinate climate change activities and reduce its impact in the state.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by Environment and Natural Resources Commissioner Muhammad Sadiq Mohammed, emphasized the need for a unified approach to mitigate climate change effects. “We must bring all actors under one umbrella to tackle this challenge,” he stated.

Muhammad Sadiq Mohammed noted that Adamawa has experienced excessive heat, necessitating collaborative efforts for lasting solutions.

Dr. Bashir Adamu of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, praised the initiative as timely.

He attributed climate change to human actions, including deforestation, and urged individuals to adopt sustainable practices.

Also speaking, Zarna Kada highlighted Adamawa’s ongoing struggle with climate change’s devastating effects, noting that the formation of the group is necessary to effectively mitigate the effect of climate change.

The event concluded with participants committing to work together to achieve desired results.
