The Bauchi state chapters of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have distanced themselves from the planned #EndBadGovernance protest. This was made known by the NLC Chairman, Comrade Dauda Maidara Shuaibu, during a press conference.
Comrade Shuaibu clarified that the union has its own constitutional provisions for addressing matters of public concern, and can decide to protest or use other means to fight for its demands. He emphasized that the union will not participate in the scheduled protest.
The NLC chairman acknowledged the difficulties faced by citizens due to the biting economic crisis, but urged members to remain law-abiding citizens. He encouraged them to report to their various places of work, rather than engaging in the protest.
This decision by the NLC and TUC may come as a surprise to some, given the widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of governance. However, the unions seem to be taking a cautious approach, choosing to focus on their own internal processes for addressing grievances.
And With this development, the NLC and TUC are maintaining a neutral stance, while still acknowledging the concerns of their members.
