The Committee on TETFUND and Other Services, House of Representatives, has indicated willingness to assist Kebbi State Government owned Tertiary Institutions, to access 2024 Intervention Fund amounting to more than 3.2 billion naira now in the bank.
About N2 billion is accruing to the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, while N1.2 billion is due to the Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari.
The Chairperson, House Committee on TETFUND and Other Services, Rt. Hon. Mariam Odinaka Onoha, announced this during a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, in the course of the oversight functions of members of the committee in the state.
Hon. Mariam Onoha informed her host, that the money allocated to the institutions were yet to be accessed due to some bottlenecks which the House of Representatives was ready to remove to enable access to the funds.
“Part of the oversight functions of the committee is to ensure that all institutions are allowed to enjoy the benefits of fund allocation and compliance with the TETFUND Act by the beneficiaries nationwide”, She said.
“The House wants holistic approach to the amendment of the Act with input from stakeholders, the committee is on ground to give a helping hand”, the Chairperson added.
Hon. Mariam Onoha commended Governor Nasir Idris for his effort towards improving the education sector, appealing to him to sustain support to Tertiary Institutions in the state to excel in line with the Federal Government’s Education Mandate.
The Chairperson of the committee, Hon. Mariam Onuoha had earlier told the Governor that the visit was part of their annual oversights across the country.
She said that it was aimed at assessing the impact of funds allocated by to the fund to tertiary institutions in the state.
Onuoha said that TETFUND would continue to complement the funding of tertiary education in the country in line with its mandate.
She lauded Dr Idris for his extraordinary commitment to the education, saying, “We are satisfied with what we have seen.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris acknowledged that TETFUND intervention has strengthened capacity building of Tertiary Institutions for academic excellence.
“I have invested more than N10 billion into the education sector which I inherited in structural decay”,
“I have approved money for combined Convocation of Aliero University that has never held a single convocation since its establishment”,
“I also intervened in the payment of school and registration fees for our students in Tertiary Institutions including scholarships”, the Governor remarked.
He expressed hope that Kebbi state owned Tertiary Institutions would have access to TETFUND positively.
Governor Nasir Idris intimated his guests that President Tinubu would be visiting Kebbi to commission some landmark projects executed by incumbent administration in the state, including the completed new modern State Secretariat Complex in the capital, Birnin Kebbi.
Dr.Idris also recalled that the state government had invested humongous amount of into the education sector in the last one year .
According to him, no sector had been neglected by his administration in line his promises to the people of the state.
He vowed to continue to judiciously expend all funds accruing to the state to make life better for the people of the state.
Dr Idris acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the fund to revamping the educational sector especially tertiary education.
