Processes are in progress to upgrade some primary health centres into specialised hospitals in all the four emirates of Kebbi State.

The deputy governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida announced this at the closeout ceremony of USAID Integrated Health Programme, IHP, Kebbi, this Thursday.

Senator Umar Tafida who stood in for Governor Nasir Idris, affirmed commitment of incumbent administration to the provision of quality health care delivery services and general improvement of the health sector.

“Plans have been concluded to upgrade some health facilities across the four Emirates to serve as referral centers for specialized medical care in order to bring these services closer and more accessible to the people,” he said.

Already, he said, the government has approved the recruitment of health personnel to provide the desired staff requirements in hospitals while an upward review of the renumerations of medical doctors would be carried out to encourage them remain in service without departure to greener pasture.

Furthermore, the administration would equip other General Hospitals with modern facilities and gadgets in line with standard global health practices.

The Governor assured IHP that his administration was committed to sustaining all achievements recorded in the state from USAID Integrated Health Programme (IHP)’s partnership over the past five years.

“I would like to assure you that my administration is highly committed to sustaining all the remarkable achievements recorded in strengthening the health system in the state during our partnership over the past five years.

The Governor acknowledged the effort of IHP to improve the health indices of Kebbi State especially on maternal and child health.

Other speakers at the ceremony include the Commissioner for Health, Comrade Yunusa Musa Ismail who enumerated some critical areas of intervention by IHP/USAID in Kebbi State
and the IHP Chief, Dr. Marta Levitt who spoke visually.

She explained that the five year mandate period of IHP services In Kebbi State has come to an end, spanning from April 1, 2019, to date with a ceiling of 33,257,144.78 dollars.

In the period under review, the IHP has succeeded in improving the quality of primary health care, access to health facilities, reduced child and maternal morbidity and mortality, as well as trained 7000 public and private health sector workers.

Dr. Marta Levitt thanked the Kebbi State Government for its support to the activities of the IHP that ensured the success of its mandate, acknowledging the effort of Governor Nasir Idris to improve general health services in the state.
