Gov Idris signs 2024 budget into law

Kebbi State Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has signed the 2024 appropriation bill into law.

Idris signed the budget at Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday after recieving the document from the Speaker,Kebbi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Usman Muhammad Ankwe.

Governor Idris expressed deep appreciation to the speaker and members of the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the 2024 budget .

He commended the Legislators for what he described as having people of Kebbi State at heart and for being alive to their responsibilities.

He aso described the State House of Assembly as the House of people of Kebbi State and also for ratifying series of bills sent by the Executive.

‘ I can testify that it has never happened this way,we sent the budget, the House of Assembly scrutinised it, debated on the budget ,Xrayed the budget and at end of the day they passed the budget and they brought the budget which I have signed today ‘.

The governor pledged to implement the budget to the latter, transparently giving emphasis to infrastructural development and empowerment of people of the State.

Presenting the 2024 budget, the Speaker, Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Usman Muhammad Ankwe described the presentation as significant milestone in the democratic journey of Kebbi State.

He said the budget was a culmination of extensive consultation, deliberation and rigorous scrutiny by dedicated members of the House.

According to him, the 2024 budget was not merely a financial document but represents collective aspirations for people of Kebbi State and served as road map for Kebbi State Government in achieving its developmental goals and objectives.

He stated that in considering the budget, members of the House have taken the diverse needs and priorities of the government such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, health and People’s empowerment in order to promote inclusive growth.

‘ Significant amount has been allocated to education, healthcare delivery, infrastructure, people’s empowerment, power supply,recruitment of doctors and teachers as well as social welfare to fight poverty and create employment ‘, he said.

The speaker also announced that provision has been made for the construction of Koko- Dabai Road and for social welfare to fight poverty, create employment and encourage the efforts of the wives of the governor in promoting skills acquisition.

The speaker affirmed the commitment of the legislature to work jointly with the executive arm to hasten the progress of Kebbi state for the mutual benefit of the people.

The historic presentation of the budget to the Governor was attended by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, SSG Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, Head of Service, Alhaji Sufyanu Garba Bena, Chief of Staff Government House, Barrister Attahiru Muhammad Maccido, Commissioners, Special Advisers and other top government functionaries.

It will be recalled that the 2024 budget, tagged ‘ Budget of Infrastructure and People’s Empowerment ‘ is in the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Billion One Hundred and Thirty Four Million Ninety One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Seven Naira One Kobo (N250,134,091,757.01) was presented to the Kebbi State House of Assembly in November, 2023.
