In an effort to overcome the numerous challenges affecting Western Education in Northern Nigeria, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has advocated more attention on vocational training and entrepreneurship subjects among basic schools in Bauchi State.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi made the statement during the commissioning and handing over of Second Chance Learning Center, to the Bauchi State Government.

Dr. Bobboyi represented by the Zonal Director, UBEC North East, Mallam Abdullahi Shehu Jarma, said “The rationale behind the project is to address the number of out-of-school children, lack of enrollment into basic schools as well as challenges facing the married women education”.

The UBEC Boss observed that the Bauchi Second Chance Learning School will assist state government in improving the lives of married women, who have no access to education, saying the Center will also give opportunity to widows and poor families to benefit.

He said the Second Chance Learning Center project started with 19 northern states, especially northeastern states to revamp the education system in Nigeria.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Saleh Yakubu Ningi, appreciated the commitment of UBEC and Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad of the state for giving more priorities
to the education system.

Ningi also used the medium to commend the effort of Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammad towards improving literacy and empowering youth, women, and children with skills and equipment.
