The United States Embassy in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Organization of Innovation and Sustainable Development, has launched a training program for female journalists in Bauchi state on gender equality in
journalism profession.
The two-day training, designed to help women advance in their chosen career, is being held in conjunction with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Bauchi Chapter.
Declaring the workshop open, the Senior Programme Manager of OISD, Dr Enerst Ogozie said, the project aimed at addressing gender disparities within the media industry.
Dr Enerst added that the program was designed to empower and uplift women journalists, ensure they not only exist within the landscape but thrive as influential change-makers, storytellers, and opinion shapers.
Giving the objectives of the training, Mr Leslie Jonah explained that the training initiative aims to equip female journalists in gender sensitive reporting, empowerment, networking, and collaboration.
While the state chairperson of NAWOJ Hajiya Rashida Yusuf commended the organizers for the training, and urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge they will acquire during the training.
The theme of the training program is,”SHE EXISTS: Promoting Equity and Equal Opportunities for Women in Media”.
30 participants were drawn from different media outlets in the state, who described the training as apt and timely.
