Kebbi Gov. Idris Flags off distribution of palliatives in Maiyama worth N5.7bn to the public

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has Flagged off the distribution of palliatives to the public in Maiyama local Government Area of Kebbi State this Friday.

About 210 truck load of grains worth N5.7 billion have been distributed to the general public including the vulnerable to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal and provide sustainable means of livelihood to citizenry by the Kebbi State Government.

Flagging-off the distribution exercise, Governor Nasir Idris said over 550,000 families would benefit from the gesture.

“Each of the 21 local government areas receive 10 trucks consisting of rice and millet .

“Kebbi state government expended over N5.7 billion to procure these grains,” he said.

He noted that the distribution of the palliatives beginning from today, Friday, would continue until all beneficiaries receive their allocation.

The governor explained that palliatives distribution committees have already been constituted in every local government comprising state executive members, party chairmen, women ,youth leaders and security agencies among others.

Idris directed the committees to be firm and resolute in the equitable distribution of the commodities.

“About 550,000 families of federal, state and local government workers to community members at ward levels are expected to benefit from the grains,” he said.

The governor also revealed that the state government had enrolled into the 2023/2024 Federal Government’s Special Dry Season Programme to provide a solid, lasting and sustainable means of livelihood to the citizenry.

“Support will be provided for dry season crop production to create a circle of agricultural activities.

“Under the programme, farmers will be supported with subsidised inputs and solar irrigation pumps to cultivate rice, wheat, maize, and cassava in the dry season.

“I, therefore, call on all genuine farmers in the state to enrol into the programme to cultivate the crop of their choice so as to contribute to the food basket of the country,” he said.

Gov. Idris recalled that the state government recently distributed 6,720 tons of assorted fertiliser worth N2.3 billion free to farmers in the state.

The governor urged the general public to continue to support government so as to reap more dividends of democracy.

Earlier, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, said the essence of the intervention was to positively have direct impact on the lives of the beneficiaries.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items for the good of their respective families.
