An NGO, BAOBAB For Women’s Human Rights, has organized a one-day sensitisation meeting for Women Development Officers and Social Welfare Officers of the 20 Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
The Meeting was aimed at discussing the current status of Women’s Human Rights and it’s set back in the State.
Briefing Journalists after the meeting in Bauchi, the Program Officer of BAOBAB, Haruna Dogonkwami, said the meeting will help in reviewing the laws that protect Women from Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, including VAPP Law, Child Right act, and other laws that have been implemented by the Bauchi state government.
Haruna Dogonkwami added that the sensitization meeting was also meant to ensure that the laws are fully domesticated and applied by courts, to penalize the perpetrators of Violence against Women and Children.
“We want to see what are the statuses of the laws, the Developments, challenges, and ways to improve”
Dogonkwami said, to end Gender Based Violence, there is a need to work hand in hand with the CSOs and CBOs at the Local Government level, and called on the participants to use the knowledge gained at the grassroots in the protection of Women’s Human Rights.
Also speaking, the Bauchi State BAOBAB outreach team, Hajiya Hussaina Musa Gar, urged the participants, to apply the new skills learnt at the meeting, in their various areas.
Some of the participants interviewed, commended the effort of BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights, for organizing the sensitization, to end Gender Based Violence, and promised to work together to achieve the set goals.
