Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari is best qualified to lead the 10th National Assembly as Senate President, a youths organization, has revealed.

The National Youth Forum for Good Governance disclosed this in a press conference addressed by its president James Oghenebrume in Abuja on Tuesday.

Despite being a first-timer in the senate, the forum said Senator Yari is not a first-timer in the National Assembly having served as a member of the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011; and thus possesses all the requisite experiences and competence to serve as senate president in the 10th Assembly.

Comrade Oghenebrume said,” Senator Abdulaziz Yari has carved a niche for himself, first as a party leader in Zamfara state, member House of Representatives and governor for eight years. Within this period, Senator Yari has proved his mettle as manager of both people and resources. He firmly and courageously engraved his golden footprints in the political sand of history.”

The forum said the senate requires a detribalized, cosmopolitan and open-minded Nigerian to make it deliver the envisaged prosperity, relevant legislation and robust oversights on federal agencies on behalf of Nigerians.

“It is no secret that Senator Yari has got all it takes to deliver good governance to Nigerians from the senate. His legendary stint as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) is a testimony to his impeccable leadership character, simplicity, policy-formulation acumen and rare ability to manage a diverse society excellently irrespective of its ethnic, sectional and religious configuration.

“The 36 governors of the federation, who are of different political parties, ethnicities, geopolitical zones and religious leanings are living testimony to Senator Abdulaziz Yari’s unprecedented leadership wizardry in promoting and protecting the varied interests of the 36 states in the most convivial manner without rancour and bad blood,” the forum added.

Explaining why they are advocating for Yari’s emergence as senate president, Comrade Oghenebrume said the Zamfara-born senator-elect has prima facie qualities of leading the 109-member Nigerian senate.

“As a former lawmaker, governor and chairman of governors forum, Senator Yari is battle-tested to pilot the affairs of the senate, particularly in relating with the executive arm of government. As chairman of NGF, he was celebrated in championing the cause of the 36 states of the federation through deliberate, well thought out, peaceful but productive interface with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“It is therefore imperative to say that Senator Yari as senate president and leader of the 10th Assembly will bring his enormous experiences to bear in robustly engaging President Bola Tinubu’s -led executive arm of government through a win-win approach in delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians,” Comrade Oghenebrume said.

The forum said the 10th senate needs a younger person like Senator Yari to actualise its full potentials in serving the interest of Nigerians irrespective of their demographic algorithms.
