Bagudu Visits Augie Fadama, Advise Farmers on Safer Practices

Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has advised people of Argungu and Augie local government areas to adopt even water resources management system beneficial to both communities for their agriculture and fishing activities.

The governor gave the advice, this Thursday at Gidan Dabai village, Augie Local Government during a visit to Fadama area.

Addressing farmers and community leaders at the point of water recession section, the governor urged the two neighbouring communities to embrace workable approach to enjoy water inflow without denying any part access to water.

At present, there is low flow of water from Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority downstream.

The governor was accompanied to the site by the representatives of the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mohammed Mera, the Kundudan Kabi, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Kwaido and Magajin Gari Aminu Musa Inname.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said the state government would constitute advisory committee of experts and water management comprising members from the Argungu Emirate, community leaders including the Emir who is a water engineer on how best to resolve the matter amicably without posing any threat to either community.

The governor indicated that a permanent solution would be provided by constructing water channel system beneficial to both farmers in Argungu and Augie axis, urging leaders of the two areas to educate their people especially farmers and fishermen whom he described as partners in progress in the search for a permanent solution.

Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu gave an assurance of sustaining support to farmers in the provision of agricultural input and implements.

He interacted with farmers on the outcome of dry season cultivation of rice, wheat and other crops.

The representatives of the Emir of Argungu, Kunduda Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Kwaido and Magajin Gari, Aminu Musa Inname informed the governor that, the Emirate council has embarked on joint self help projects with the local government and communities in the areas to find lasting solution to the issue, but appealed to the government for permanent solution to the problem for the purpose of fishing and faming activities.

In separate remarks, the farmers representatives, Alhaji Mu’azu Gidan Dabai and Abubakar Shayau Gidan Dabai requested the government to construct modern channel system for free flow of water to the people of Augie and Argungu.

They said the two neighbouring communities were farmers of variety of crops and solely depended on water for cultivation.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, APC Zonal Vice Chairman Kebbi North, Alhaji Sahabi Lolo and Chairman of Argungu Local Government, Hon. Salisu Ahmad K.C.
