2023 Budget: Gov. Buni to Ensure Food Security, Wealth Creation, Empowerment Generation, Others

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, is to ensure agricultural productivity and food security, wealth creation, employment and empowerment generation for the overall development of Yobe state.

This is contained in the 2023 budget size of N163,155,366.00 tagged “Budget of Accomplishment” presented by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni to the Yobe State House of Assembly for the 2023 fiscal year.

Governor Buni said “ln our efforts to attain food security, wealth creation, employment and empowerment generation, we have planned to improve our agricultural productivity, continue to implement measures for safeguarding the environment and prevent farmers/herdsmen conflicts.

“In this respect, funds would be made available for the provision of veterinary clinics, water supply and other essential facilities for the Jakusko/Nasari and Gurjaje Livestock Development Centers while the procurement of fertilizers, bulls, tools, other machineries and animal drugs and vaccines would be sustained.

“Government has set aside One Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-seven Million and Nine Hundred Thousand (N1,297,900,000) has been set aside for payment of counterpart fund for AUDA/NEPAD, LAVA irrigation and the World Bank-funded Livestock Productivity Resilience Support (L-PRES) programmes in the State.

“Furthermore, funds would be released for the implementation of our various empowerment programmes that seek to combat poverty and uplift the wellbeing of rural dwellers, IDP-returnees, youth, women, people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

“For the attainment of our objectives in this area, we would sustain the Youth Empowerment Farm Programme, construct and renovate Women and Youth Development Centers and provide Sporting facilities and other support packages. Payment of counterpart fund would also be made for the actualization of our objectives on some target groups.

“Incentives would also be made available to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Cooperative Societies pursuant to the NG-CARES programme and support packages would also be extended to the desert-prone areas to raise tree plantations and participate in the proposed oases livelihood support programme for alleviation of poverty.
