2023: Bauchi NUJ Charges politicians to shun vulgar language in their Campaigns

The Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has charged politicians to avoid vulgar language during their electioneering campaigns especially now that the 2023 general election is fast approaching.

In a Communique signed by the Council Secretary Isah Garba Gadau and issued at the end of the Congress of the NUJ Bauchi State Council held on the 7th November 2022, the union cautions politicians in the state to exercise orderliness and make their campaigns free of any attack on individuals or groups in the society.

The meeting which was chaired by the Council Chairman Umar Sa’idu and attended by the National Ex-officio, two former chairmen and caretaker chairman of the council, deliberated on wide range of issues.

The congress in session urged members not to allow themselves to be used by self-centred politicians and to always be objective in their reportage as required by the union’s Professional Code of Practice.

The meeting commended the effort of the state council in organising regular congress meeting and series of training programs for members and stressed the need for more on the coverage of the 2023 General Election as well as the forthcoming National Population Census.

The congress advised the Bauchi State Government to appoint credible persons in the distribution of all relief materials donated to flood victims by the Federal and State as well as various organizations.

The meeting called on petroleum marketers to put more effort in providing the product in the state to alleviate the sufferings of the people and caution the authorities concerned to stop the hoarding of petroleum products and address the issue of black marketers.

The congress enjoin motorists and other road users to obey traffic rules and regulations especially during this ember months to avoid crashes.

The meeting calls on the Bauchi State Government to ensure timely release of Maternal Newborn and Child Health care allocations and other health care services to save more lives.

The congress commends the State Government for making effort to digitise state owned Media houses.

The congress in session also reminded the Bauchi State Government to hasten the fulfillment of its pledge to upgrade the State NUJ Secretariat.

The congress then urged the Federal Government to hasten the reconstruction of the Bauchi-Gombe Highway which has became a death trap for motorists.
