Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to the provision of necessary teaching and learning materials in the quest for quality education.
The governor was speaking, this Tuesday in Ribah Town, Danko/Wasagu Local Government when he paid an unscheduled visit to Government Girls Secondary School, Ribah in furtherance of efforts to ascertain the level of resumption from holiday by students.
It was the third visit by the Governor within one week to schools during which he visited Dr. Amina Abubakar Comprehensive Secondary School Birnin Kebbi and Command Science Girls Secondary School, Goru.
Addressing staff and students, the Governor expressed delight about the appreciable number of students who returned to school, after vocation and performance of the students in last year’s WAEC examination as confirmed by the principal of the school.
He pledged renovation of the school’s infrastructure including classrooms, dormitories, dining hall, and erection of perimeter fence to enhance security, would be carried to improve conducive environment for learning.
In her welcome address the principal of the school Hajiya Maryam Na-Madi and the Head Girl of the school, Habiba Dandare, expressed appreciation to the Governor for visiting the school twice and acceding to the provision of required equipment and facilities for learning.
The principal informed the Governor that, the school JET club has been producing school chalk and even selling to other schools as part of skills acquisition proceeds and thanked the Governor for including the school in the World Bank Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, (AGILE).
The school Head Girl Habiba Dandare, appealed to the Governor to provide additional toilets to the school, wall fence, renovation of hostels and classrooms, as well as dining hall, where the roof was blown-off by windstorm.
The principal, Hajiya Maryam expressed her joy and gratitude to the governor, promising for better performance in all WAEC/NECO examinations by students.
Before departure from Ribah, the Governor visited the family house of prominent politician and businessman late Alhaji Danmusa Ribah, whose eldest son Alhaji Lawali Danmusa Ribah, Secretary Fakai Local Government passed away this Saturday of a brief illness at the age of 45, leaving behind two wives and twelve children.
During the condolence visit, an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Ribah led special prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased as well as for peace, tranquility, Allah’s guidance and protection for leaders and the citizenry.
