Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has lauded the efforts and sacrifice of teachers towards instilling sound education to students in the state.
The governor made the commendation when he paid an unscheduled visit to Emir Haruna Secondary School and Abubakar Gari Mallam
Model Primary school in Birnin Kebbi this Monday.
Addressing teachers of both schools separately, including their Principal and Headmaster, the Governor expressed his utmost appreciation for their unrelenting commitment in the discharge of their academic performance.
‘ I thank you all on behalf of the State Government for the effort you are putting in the discharge of your onerous responsibility in spite of challenges you are facing’, he said.
He charged them to be proactive in tasking those in authority and political leaders to play vital role in addressing problems in their schools.
‘ There is need for you to come out and say your problems in school, what challenges you are facing.
‘ Engage political leaders and those in authority, widen your consultation to all stakeholders. Government cannot shoulder it alone , we all have to join hands to support education sector ‘, he averred.
Bagudu also stated that the State Government had paid the gratuities of all retired workers up to December 2021.
According to him, arrangements were on to pay the 2022 gratuity to retired civil servants in the state.
He said that the state government was also up to date in the payment of monthly pensions to all retirees.
Bagudu also said that his administration attached priority attention to the education sector.
According to the Governor, he was in the schools to thank them and learn the challenges first hand, with a view to solving them.
The APC Progressives Governors’ Forum Chairman, further commended the efforts of the teachers in the last few years in spite of the challenges facing the schools .
He, however, said that he had recently met with the officials of SUBEB and LGEAs on the ways to solve the problems affecting primary education in the state particularly the salary of teachers.
He pledged to settle the arrears of leave grants of workers as soon as the finances of the State Government improves.
In their separate response, the Headmaster of Abubakar Gari Malam Model Primary School, Malam Sanusi Umar Birnin Kebbi and some of the teachers commended the governor for the visit and called for the improvement of funding of the primary education sub sector.
They also called for payment of their leave grant, improvement in their salary and other welfare packages to serve as motivation.
