World Sight Day: Kano To Establish Eye Clinics In All 44 LGs, as over 380,000 people benefited from Ganduje Foundation’s eye treatment scheme

Kano state government sets to establish Eye Clinic in the headquarters of all the 44 local governments across the state. That the state would strengthen institutions and staffing to further support health sector.

This was disclosed by governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje during the closing ceremony of the World Sight Day, that took place at Dawakin Tofa local government, Saturday.

“That we intend to establish eye clinic in the headquarters of all the 44 local governments is not enough. We will continue to work very hard in this sector,” he encouraged.

After commenting on the religious imperative in personal hygiene, he also advised people to always take advice from health experts, that “Even in Islam hygiene is absolutely important and necessary.”

As every second Thursday of October each year is set aside and regarded as World Sight Day, governor Ganduje, before today’s closing ceremony, declared the day opened at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, in Kano Emirate, when 4,306 people were treated.

He declared the programme closed after commending all the health workers who participated in the exercise from beginning to end.

The event took place across all the five Emirates, in some selected local governments, in the state. In Bichi Emirate 2,904 people were treated, in Gaya Emirate 2,536 people were treated, in Karaye Emirate 2,426 people were treated and in Rano Emirate, 2,741 people were treated.

Representative of a global body Sight Boost, at the occasion, Dr Kamilu Sale acknowledged and appreciated that, “Your Excellency we are aware how concerned you are with people’s eyes. We are aware how Ganduje Foundation treated over 380,000 people concerning eyes problems.”

He further disclosed that, ” Since 2014 Ganduje Foundation has treated people with eye problem in six stages. Where 17,600 were treated with trachoma surgery, 264,000 were diagnosed and provided with prescriptions and 105,600 were provided with eye glasses.”

All development partners, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Sight Boost commended governor Ganduje for his good intervention in the health sector. Urging people to always support the governor in making Kano healthier. So also National Orientation Agency (NOA) representative commended the governor.
