– To Construct Renal Transplant, Expand Maternity Complex, Others
To ensure that people have access to quality and affordable healthcare, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni CON has said, his administration has earmarked the sum of N18 billion naira to consolidate the ongoing construction and upgrading of healthcare facilities across the state.
It has also set aside 1 billion naira to augment the expanded contributory health insurance scheme especially the Under-5 and Free Maternal Health Care Scheme.
The Governor made the disclosure during the 2023 budget presentation on the floor of the Yobe State House of Assembly.
While stating that the sum of N18 Billion would be spent in the health sub-sector, the Governor reiterated, “our guiding philosophy for this sector is the establishment of a qualitative, affordable and accessible health care delivery system in the State; hence we are focusing on infrastructural development of our hospitals and primary health care centres, as well as the procurement of drugs and cutting edge medical equipment in major health care facilities across the three Senatorial Districts.”
“The completion of the remaining primary healthcare centers to meet our target of establishing one functional primary healthcare centre in each of the 178 electoral wards, construction of Renal Transplant Center at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, expansion of the Maternity Complex in the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, Labour Ward and the Women and Children Hospital Damaturu and General Hospitals of Fika and Nangere as well as the Accident and Emergency Unit of the State Specialist Hospital, Potuskum.
“We would also build and upgrade vital school structures at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery and College of Health Science and Technology, Nguru.
“Provision is also made for additional well equipped structures including Staff and Doctors’ Quarters and upgrading of some existing health facilities across the state.
“We would also cater for counterpart funding for immunization against polio and other programmes jointly funded with our develipment partners”, Governor Buni said.
