Security of lives and property of citizens is the primary responsibility and first priority of every responsible Government. This does not happen overnight by miracle but, depends upon the degree of attention security operatives are receiving, in terms of provision of relevant and requisite materials. In this regard, Senator Bala Mohammed, the executive governor of Bauchi State stands to make difference. His usual move to nip security challenge in the bud deserves nothing less than appreciation and approbation.
The recently distributed fifty (50) operational vehicles to security agencies in Bauchi state by the state’s governor must be a topic of discussion among people from the four walls of the state and beyond. Regardless of political affiliation, we all can stand to give testimony that, in the history of Bauchi this is first of its kind. For a state governor to have distributed fifty (50) operational vehicles and which have been equipped with communication gadgets and other facilities required to maintain peace and security, this action must have been rooted within his subconscious out of passion for peace to rein. Indeed, this is worthy of emulation by his counters, especially those whose state’s turn out to be epicenter of insecurity.
Do we have the idea of the extent to which these vehicles will assist the agencies? I may not be a security expert but, from experience I know many security agents attribute their inaction and inability to defeat armed robbers, kidnappers, bandits, cattle rustlers among other miscreants to lack of sufficient and sophisticated fighting equipment. Sometimes, a report of a crime will be reported to police but, unfortunately, their only car might be on patrol elsewhere and so, before it ruches to the scene of the crime the criminals perpetrate their evil and flee.
I believe these vehicles will assist the agencies with prompt response to emergencies, they will certainly be more emboldened to rise up against armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, farmer/herder clashes and boundary disputes, among others, thereby maintaining the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the state. If this happens, the tag ‘pearl of tourism’ given to Bauchi is proven and there will definitely be influx of investors and tourists.
What keeps sounding in me is, where are the governors of Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna and others states where insecurity is ravaging? do they give such a level of priority to security Bala Mohammed exemplifies in Bauchi? Because I feel if they do, the intensity of the security challenge they encounter in their various states would have drastically reduced, if not completely eliminated.
If Senator Bala Mohammed, the executive governor of Bauchi state _ the most peaceful state in the North_ could procure fifty (50) patrol vehicles to security agencies, the, how many Zamfara state governor, Katsina, Kaduna, Borno governor and other epicenter of insecurity should be providing in their respective states? Up to them.
