Gombe state government and the United Nations have been called upon to provide more assistance to over Fourteen Thousand Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the state.

The call was made by the leader of the IDPs in the state, Malam Abba Jatau, when the Gombe state Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Officer in Nigeria, Mr Edward kallom paid them a visit at the Bagadaza IDP resettlement in Akko Local government area of Gombe state.

The IDPs leader, Malam Abba, who thanked Gombe state government and the UN for providing free medical assistance to them, however, said they need more houses and a means of living to pay for their children fees when schools resume.

Speaking earlier, the Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, who also thanked the UN representative said, facilities at the IDP camps are over stretched due to over population and the funds given to the state by the UN was used for setting up the covid-19 testing centre in the state specialist Hospital, building isolation centres in kaltungo, Kwadon, and Ashaka.

The UN representative, Mr Edward Kallom praised the Gombe State Government for accommodating the IDPs.

He also pledged more support to the state despite competing demands such as the Covid 19 pandemic.
